Join us for a cool, creative afternoon of Blackletter Calligraphy with Angie Durbin. This beginner-friendly workshop offers a simple, welcoming introduction to the bold beauty of Blackletter lettering-perfect for total newcomers or seasoned artists looking to refresh their skills.

You’ll learn why calligraphy is different from handwriting, explore a quick overview of styles and tools, and get guidance on ergonomics: how to hold your pen, proper pen angle, posture, and how to set up a comfortable calligraphy space at home.

From there, we’ll move into approachable hands-on practice:

• Warm up drills to learn foundational strokes
• Step-by-step Blackletter letterforms
• Spacing and composition for clean, balanced writing
• Personalized feedback throughout
• Time to experiment with additional tools like dip pens, brush markers, ink, watercolor brushes, so forth

Your instructor, Angie Durbin, is a Ridgewood-based calligrapher, artist, and graphic designer with professional experience spanning Hallmark Cards, American Greetings, and the publication of her Calligraphy & Lettering Art kit.

All materials are included, including a calligraphy marker, practice sheets, and paper. Come slow down, make something beautiful, and leave with a new skill that’s yours to build on.
